Law Library Director and Secretary to the Board Christopher Cobb County public law libraries were created by statute and are controlled and funded through the provisions of the California Business and Professions Code Sections 6300 et seq. Each county, unless excepted, must have at least one library, located at the county seat. The Monterey County Law Library is just one of more than fifty public law libraries in California. The Monterey County Law Library is dedicated to supplying the public and legal community with the best possible access to legal materials through hard copy holdings and electronic media, including the internet. In most counties, including Monterey, the county public law library is the major, if not the only, source of legal materials for the general public. The majority of the library budget is used to insure that the public has access to California and Federal case and statutory law. The library also attempts to satisfy the legal community's need for reference and practice books to the full extent that the budget will permit.
